{"id":3426,"date":"2024-04-16T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-16T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/day-41-back-in-back\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T23:28:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T23:28:06","slug":"day-41-back-in-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/16\/day-41-back-in-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 41: Back in Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Starting Point: Erwin, TN (344.6)<\/div>\n<div>Ending Point: Erwin, TN (344.6)<\/div>\n<div>Total miles: 3.0 trail miles, 3.0 return<\/div>\n<div>Steps: 15,872<\/div>\n<div>Injuries: Back!<\/div>\n<div>Achievements: New Kicks<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>The day started with so much promise.&nbsp; After a wonderful night of conversation, I slept well and woke up ready to do.&nbsp; We took the 9 a.m. shuttle into town and I did a quick resupply and visited the local outfitter.&nbsp; They carried Altra Lone Peaks, so I left the store with a new pair of version 8&#8217;s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After assembling my pack, we were on the trail by 11:30.&nbsp; I quickly noticed a problem.&nbsp; My back was absolutely killing me.&nbsp; It was like a dagger was pushing into my ribs, to the right of my spine.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Fortunately, the Sweeper is a physical therapist.&nbsp; He looked at it and was able to do a diagnosis.&nbsp; I was able to do as well.&nbsp; If I lift my pack up and walk, no pain.&nbsp; &nbsp;I leave go, pain.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It is the side of my body that hit the ground when I fell unexpectedly approaching Big Butt.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I attempted to make it to the first shelter, but mentally I couldn&#8217;t deal with it.&nbsp; I returned to Erwin.&nbsp; I&#8217;ll figure out what to do next.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Starting Point: Erwin, TN (344.6) Ending Point: Erwin, TN (344.6) Total miles: 3.0 trail miles, 3.0 return Steps: 15,872 Injuries: Back!
