{"id":3232,"date":"2023-06-26T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-26T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/26\/awake-for-34-straight-hours\/"},"modified":"2026-06-11T00:21:39","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T00:21:39","slug":"awake-for-34-straight-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/26\/awake-for-34-straight-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"Awake for 34 Straight Hours!"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/PXL_20230625_105302813-scaled.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"4032\" data-original-width=\"3024\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/PXL_20230625_105302813-scaled.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We landed an hour early in Lisbon which was great!&nbsp; We couldn&#8217;t check into our hotel until 2:00 p.m., but they are letting us keep our packs here while we sightsee.<\/p>\n<p>The first task was purchasing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lisboacard.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Lisboa Card<\/a>&nbsp;right at the airport.&nbsp; If you are going to spend any time in Lisbon, you will want this.&nbsp; For a very reasonable price you get the following benefits:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li>Free use of the Metro, buses and the tram.<\/li>\n<li>A guidebook and map of all the places you can see.<\/li>\n<li>Free or heavily discounted entry into museums and other attractions.<\/li>\n<li>Free train rides to&nbsp;Sintra and Cascais.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>We took the Metro from the airport to a stop right by our hotel.&nbsp; One thing I didn&#8217;t understand at first was that the sign on front of the Metro train had a number and the name of the final stop.&nbsp; I thought that the number was the route number, much to my wife&#8217;s annoyance.&nbsp; It is, in fact, the train number.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: left\">Our first stop was two fold.&nbsp; First was to visit the&nbsp;Marqu\u00eas de Pombal which was conveniently located right by the local McDonalds.&nbsp; Jill and I have had a little joke between us to visit a McDonalds in all of our travels.&nbsp; Our quest for this trip is to visit a McDonalds in Lisbon, Porto, Santiago and Madrid.<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: left\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/PXL_20230625_142238784-scaled.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"3024\" data-original-width=\"4032\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/jphikes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/PXL_20230625_142238784-scaled.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: left\">With that quest accomplished, we took the Metro to the&nbsp;Castelo de S.
